The miniDAWN Multi-Angle static Light Scattering (MALS) detector performs absolute characterization of the molar mass and size of macromolecules and nanoparticles in solution, offering superb sensitivity over a wide range of molecular weight, size and concentration. miniDAWN performance for MALS analysis is exceeded only by the DAWN which covers a wider range of sizes and molecular weights with even better sensitivity. Three discrete photodetectors are spaced around the flow cell in an optical geometry, ensuring that measurements are made simultaneously over a broad range of scattering angles.
The miniDAWN is most often used in conjunction with Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC-MALS) or Field-Flow Fractionation (FFF-MALS) to determine distributions of mass, size and composition, independent of column calibration by reference standards. The miniDAWN and its companion Optilab dRI detector are well-established for MALS analysis, cited in thousands of peer-reviewed publication. With the addition of a ViscoStar differential viscometer or WyattQELS module, the triple-detection system can analyze conformation and sizes below the rg limit.
