The Shimadzu Roadshow for the year 2011 was organized in the month of June in Ahmedabad, Goa, Hyderabad and Vishakapatnam . The event attracted a very high turnover of over 1500 customers belonging to various scientific sectors. Shimadzu launched LCMS 8030- Triple Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer, TOC-L – Total Organic Carbon Analyzer and EDX-LE- Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometer during the roadshow. Other Shimadzu instruments like Nexera , LC2010, GC and GCMS were also in display. Technical presentations on the various instruments were made by experts from Shimadzu and Spinco. The customers were given a unique opportunity to interact and discuss with technical experts.

Inauguration of Dr. P.S. Ramanathan Advanced Instrumentation Centre.
The Dr. P.S. Ramanathan Advanced Instrumentation Centre at Ramnarain Ruia College, Matunga, Mumbai was inaugurated on the 19th of april 2011. The chief guest for the event, Dr. K.H. Gharda, Managing Director of Gharda Chemicals Ltd spoke about Dr. Ramanathan’s contribution to the industry. Mr. Tsuguo Kishida, Managing Director, Shimadzu Asia Pacific and Mr. Senya Imamichi, Managing Director, Shimadzu Analytical India also addressed the gathering paying rich tributes to Dr. Ramanathan. This sophisticated instrumentation centre set up in collaboration with Shimadzu Analytical India Pvt Ltd, equipped with a wide range of Shimadzu instruments, will deliver training on contemporary analytical techniques to teachers and students and also provide analytical and testing services to the Industry.

Seminar on Recent Trends in NIR technology and PAT applications
A series of seminars on the recent trends in NIR technology and PAT applications was held in the month of April across 4 cities in India Hyderabad, Bangalore, Mumbai and Chandigarh. The seminars, which were organized by Spinco Biotech in association with Foss NIR, were targeted towards near infrared technology users in India. Eminent speakers like Dr. Paul Brimmer and Mr. Richard Streamer (Foss NIR – Australia) who have had rich experience in the NIR technology spoke of the importance of NIR and PAT applications. Topics such as Real Time NIR Lab and At-Line Analysis for Pharmaceutical applications such as raw material Inspection, reaction monitoring, blend analysis, solvent recovery and fermentation bioprocesses were extensively covered.

Spinco Biotech Awarded
Spinco Biotech received awards for the ‘Outstanding Product Sales Award-Empower’, ‘Outstanding Product Sales Award- LC 2010’ and the ‘Outstanding Sales Award’ for achieving the highest sales amongst the Asia Pacific distributors, during the Shimadzu Asia Pacific partnership meet that took place in Nha Trang, Vietnam. Spinco Biotech sold a total of 1000 LC 2010 systems and recorded a breakthrough sale of 137 empower drivers in the year 2010. The award was presented by Mr.Tsuguo Kishida, Managing Director, Shimadzu Asia Pacific to Mr. Ravindranath, Managing Director Spinco Biotech.

Launch of Indian Institute of Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry
Indian Institute of Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry was launched on the 8th of January 2011. Mr. Tsuguo Kishida, Managing Director Shimadzu Asia Pacific inaugurated the new facility located in Guindy, Chennai. IICMS has been the dream of Mr. S.Thyagarajan. It is a premier training Institute and a center of excellence directed towards developing experts in chromatography & mass spectrometry. The centre will train students and users on the contemporary yet advanced analytical techniques. Dr. Venkat Manohar, who has had over 3 decades of rich experience in various MNC’s will head IICMS as the Director. A formal inauguration of IICMS will take place in the month of august.
Spinco Towers was inaugurated by Mr. Yasunori Tokumasu, Director, Shimadzu Corporation, Japan in the presence of Mr. T. Kishida, Managing Director, Shimadzu Singapore and Mr. S. Imamichi, Managing Director, Shimadzu India. The facility symbolizes the celebration of 10,000 Shimadzu HPLC installations in India and also the longstanding 28 years of partnership between Shimadzu and Spinco Biotech. Celebration of 10,000 Shimadzu HPLC in India
Spinco reached its greatest milestone of 10000 Shimadzu HPLC in India after 28 years of exemplary service to customers. Spinco and Shimadzu association dates back to 1983, since then Spinco has spanned the entire country and has won the hearts of many customers in India. Shimadzu’s phenomenal engineering and the unconditional service support of Spinco has been the backbone for this achievement. The celebrations took place in various locations like Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Trivandrum, Cochin, Chennai, Dehradun, Chandigarh and Indore. Adhering to our motto of “Customerization” we made sure that the customers played the main role in our celebrations. Launch of Nexera. - The only no compromise UHPLC
Shimadzu’s Nexera system represents the latest standards of speed and resolution in liquid chromatography instrumentation. Developed with the concept of ‘No compromise UHPLC system’ for use with sub 2 µm particle columns, the system is designed to maximize performance, maximize throughput and maximize expandability, keeping in mind the versatility in handling various applications on the same instrument without any changes. A series of launch programs at Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Chennai were held in the month of august where the much awaited Nexera was unveiled. Cumulatively more than 800 customers attended the launch across different cities and closely interacted with sales, service and applications team from Shimadzu and Spinco.

Shimadzu Road Show
Continuing the trend of taking Shimadzu instruments to different parts in India, Spinco-Shimadzu organized road shows at Dehradun, Chandigarh and Indore in the month of November 2010. Shimadzu has launched three new instruments during the road shows: Nexera-the Ultra High Performance Liquid Chromatograph, LCMS-8030- the Triple Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer and GCMS-QP 2010 Ultra- the Gas Chromatograph Mass Spectrometer. Other Shimadzu instruments were also in display. Technical presentations on all the products were made highlighting the unique and the best features of the instruments carry. Mr. Imamichi, Managing Director, Shimadzu Analytical India Pvt Ltd, who has been instrumental in organizing the road shows, explained how such events provide the right platform for not only displaying instruments but also give ample opportunities for customers to interact with the team of product experts.

Seminar on ‘Freeze drying technology'
Spinco has had a synergistic association with SP scientific, the undisputed leader in the freeze drying technology for two decades. With a wide range of freeze dryers catering to different applications and with the strong support from our customers, our leadership in all categories of freeze drying is unmatched. Spinco Biotech organized a series of seminars in Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chennai on the ‘Freeze Drying Technology’. A team of experts from University of Erlangen, Germany comprising of Prof. Henning Giesler, Freeze drying focus group, Division of pharmaceuticals, and his team of Dr. Stefan Schneid, Susanne Hibler and Jakob Beirowski conducted the seminars. The presentations during the sessions covered basic principles, challenges in formulation, process design & optimization, process analytical technology tools for freeze drying and an introduction of MTM and SMART freeze drying technology. The participation was overwhelming with over 400 professionals representing almost every pharmaceutical and vaccine company that uses the freeze drying technique. The customers also got a chance to interact with Mr. Mark Schon, Vice President and Ake Karlson, Distributor Manager, SP Scientific.
